2007 - The year in music

2007 | movies | music | tv | the rest

Music was my highlight of 2007. I heard so much fantastic music that I could have written my whole yearly review on this topic alone.

With tools like last.fm it’s easy to keep track of stuff I like, although it is only recording what I listen to while at work. At least half of my listening goes unrecorded via iPod.

Totally Out of this World Albums

Feist - The Reminder : My album of the year. I listened to it a few times when I first got it but it didn’t click till a few months later (yeah, with the iPod commercial). Once it had, I listened to it over and over and over.

Arcade Fire - Neon Bible : I’m starting to wonder if Arcade Fire are becoming my favourite band of all time. This might not be as brilliant as Funeral but it’s still amazing.

Spoon - Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga : I’d listened to Spoon a few times before but when this album came out they finally clicked for me. All of a sudden I realised Spoon were incredible and I now can’t work out why they aren’t one of the hugest bands in the world.

Simian Mobile Disco - Attack Decay Sustain Release : For some reason I found this to be a great album to go to sleep to, which is weird since techno/dance probably isn’t aiming for that effect. This album is lots of fun.

Radiohead - In Rainbows : Even if I ignore all the claims that this album will change the way music is sold, this album still stands out. Another one that I love to drift off to sleep listening to.

The other great albums of 2007

Modest Mouse - We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank

Coconut Records - Nighttiming : Jason Schwartzmann rocks!

Honeycut - The Day I Turned To Glass : Another tune from Apple ads

M.I.A. - Kala

Justice - Cross

Menomena - Friend and Foe

Digitalism - Idealism

Beirut - The Flying Cup Club

LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver

Timbaland - Presents: Shock Value

The Shins - Wincing the Night Away

Wilco - Sky Blue Sky

Peter Bjorn and John - Writer’s Block : The one with that whistling song.

Fujiya and Miyagi - Transparent Things

Junior Boys - So This is Goodbye

Ben Lee - Ripe

The rest

I found these a little late in the year to make the awesome list, but I think they’ll be there next year.

Burial - Untrue

Panda Bear - Person Pitch

I liked all these albums but didn’t get enough time to listen to them.

Songs of the year

These were my favourite songs of the year.

Next, my year in television, and if you’re reading backwards you’ll head to my year in movies.
